A Multi-Generational Home with a Courtyard Pool.

Conceived as a home for three generations of a single family, this residence negotiates the delicate balance between privacy and togetherness. Accommodating parents, two adult children and their respective families, the house is organised as three distinct family zones woven into a larger collective whole.

The architectural language draws inspiration from the flowing elegance of butterfly wings and flower petals. Curvilinear forms unfold across the site, each articulating a spatial territory while simultaneously carving out balconies, terraces and voids that channel daylight deep into the basement levels. Above, a sweeping roof gesture unifies the composition, conceptually gathering the entire household beneath a single canopy. These sculpted forms soften the scale of the expansive bungalow, lending the architecture a sense of lightness and fluidity despite its substantial program.

Comprising thirteen bedrooms, three living areas and three dining spaces distributed across the first and second storeys, the residence allows each family unit to function with a degree of autonomy. Individual entry sequences reinforce this sense of independence, creating apartment-like zones within the larger home. Yet these private domains are carefully oriented around a central courtyard — a secluded internal oasis anchored by a swimming pool. Shielded from neighbouring views, the courtyard becomes the emotional heart of the house, drawing light, air and landscape into the interiors while fostering visual connectivity across shared spaces.

Communal amenities are strategically dispersed throughout the basement, ground floor and attic levels to encourage intergenerational interaction. Formal and informal living areas, gardens, koi ponds, a gym, home theatre, children’s playrooms, outdoor dining verandahs and a rooftop barbecue terrace together create a layered domestic landscape where moments of gathering and retreat coexist seamlessly.
